Rec: RADIOACTIVE by Murderbot [vid], by pollyrepeat
I was like, can I make this work for
fancake's "Working Together" theme? And I decided I could not.
So I'm going to slap it in here for now because it's too good not to share immediately:
RADIOACTIVE by Murderbot [vid] (30 words) by pollyrepeat
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Murderbot (TV)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence
Characters: Murderbot (Murderbot Diaries)
Additional Tags: The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon (Murderbot Diaries), Fanvids, Video Format: Streaming, Embedded Video
Summary:
No spoilers for Murderbot, and all the spoilers, I guess, for The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon.

Rapport: Friendship, Solidarity, Communion, Empathy, by Martha Wells
Perihelion's people notice it's been acting strangely since it returned from its last solo mission. A short story set after Artificial Condition.
My favorite thing about this series is Murderbot and ART and their favorite humans. My least favorite thing is all the descriptions of walking around. This has both. I would have liked it a lot better if it had spent half as much time describing the path they took through the spaceport facility and twice as much time exploring Iris and Peri's relationship because that's the important stuff, right? I wanted to learn more about their relationship and the ways Peri changed after meeting Murderbot and what Iris thinks about those changes. Here I was thinking ART was always like this, but it seems Murderbot might have had more of an effect on ART then it could have known.
Instead: Transit schedules. :(
Read it for free at Reactor.

Why this piece is awesome: I really love eeriness, the shadowed face, and the colours here! The protomolecule swirling around him, creating his outline, the shining eyes out of the black shadow... Very cool.
Link: https://elenstar.tumblr.com/post/174670709712/113-times-a-second-a-drawing-for-wtf-fandom
Bonus: The same artist also drew a set of six drawings for the final book in the series, Leviathan Falls, which look almost like they could be movie posters. But while the Investigator also appears in the show and is more or less safe to view even if you don't want spoilers, two of these six are indeed quite spoiler-y. If you don't care about that or have already read the book, I definitely recommend checking these out as well. There's an atmosphere of space travel and eery alienness in all of them, the colour schemes are fantastic, and I really like the inclusion of the different spaceships as well. Just awesome all around.

Fam, I have been so wiped out lately that I feel like I have a Victorian wasting disease. All I can really do is just sit on the couch and read or work on my virtual farm. On the other hand this has given me plenty of time to make up Fake Victorian Wasting Diseases:
- nervous frippery
- whispering spleen
- hysterical ennui
- chimney wheeze
- evening vapors
- wastrel's scrod

Once upon a time, I watched the first five seasons of Dexter and then stopped for whatever reason. Recently I saw it was on Netflix and thought I should finally finish the series and I might as well start at the beginning so as to maximize the amount of time I could spend not having to think about anything else in the world except for what a selfish asshole Dexter is and how much I love Deb.
Previously on Dexter...

The Deep Dark, by Molly Knox Ostertag
In paperback, this makes a thick graphic novel worthy of the name. The greyscale art is simple but expressive, and you quickly get a feel for Mags and her Abuela and their small desert town near Joshua Tree. Mag's childhood friend is back in town with her cowboy boots and pinhole camera and stirring up feelings that Mags can't let herself have because she's tied to her home and the secret in the basement that's bleeding her dry.
A tender story about learning to love yourself so you can accept the love others have for you. The art's limited use of color highlights childhood memories and photographs, but comes out in full force for the happy ending.
Contains: butch/transfem romance; death of a grandparent; and, separate from the romance: infidelity, stalking, emotional manipulation, threats of suicide, gun violence.

Why this piece is awesome: I just watched the movie Sinners, which has inspired an avalanche of excellent fanart. This scene of the smokestack brothers is a favorite for artists - here's one version, which includes a WIP gif. Stack is in the red hat, Smoke the blue cap (both played by Michael B. Jordan). I like the strength of the painting, and WIP vids are always fun.
